Nnamani's support for President has nothing with EFCC
February 7, 2006
It has just come to the attention of the Enugu State government that a general misimpression is gaining currency that the invitation of officials of Enugu State Government has to do with the rumoured third term ambition of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

This was further given currency by the front page lead story of the Thisday newspaper of today, February 7, 2005, with the headline: Nnamani urges Obasanjo to stay on.

While we commend the newspaper for reporting the interview conducted with Governor Chimaroke Nnamani on the alleged third term bid of President Olusegun Obasanjo, it baffles us that the third paragraph of the story had gone to speculate that Governor Nnamani's strong support for the President is consequent upon an invitation extended to some of his aides by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

We state with all sense of responsibility that the Governor's unqualified support for the President has dated about eight years now and he has never shied away from expressing his personal admiration for President Obasanjo's leadership of the country, no matter whose ox was gored in the process.

Right from that day in 1998 when the President landed at the Enugu Airport, to the warm embrace of Dr. Nnamani and Chief JSPC Nwokolo, an agelong friend of the President's, the relationship between the President and Governor Nnamani has always been that of a father and son.

Not only did Dr. Nnamani and Chief Nwokolo follow the then presidential aspirant through all the nooks and crannies of the East on campaign tours, the governor ensured Ndigbo's full support for the President in both the 1999 and 2003 elections.

At private and public fora, even in intellectual situation of the man Obasanjo in the annals of leadership history of the country, Governor Nnamani has always lived up to his billings as a frontline supporter of the President.

We are thus amazed at the incongruent linkage of that agelong fervour for the Olusegun Obasanjo mystique, demonstrated in yet another forum of dialogue on the state of the nation, with an EFCC investigation which the Enugu State Government and the Governor himself have said they welcome and is in the best interest of the
