We recognise one PDP in Enugu, says Ahmadu Ali
April 27, 2006
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief (Dr.) Ahmadu Ali. has stated in strong terms that the party headquarters recognize only one PDP in Enugu State under the leadership of the State Governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani.

Dr. Ali made this pronouncement when he received in audience a delegation of National Assembly members, the Federal Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Frank Nweke (Jnr.) and the National Auditor of the party, Chief Bernard Eze, who is also from Enugu State, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Party Secretariat, Abuja,

The PDP National Chairman reiterated that there was no faction in PDP in Enugu State outside the mainstream PDP, adding that there could not be a more authentic PDP than the one that produced the caliber of men that visited him. He made it clear that his office had not received any complaint or petition to the contrary.

“I have never heard any group outside the mainstream of the PDP in Enugu calling themselves any other name. Nothing can be more authentic than the representative of people and their minister and the truly elected Governor of a state, the rest must be jokers,” Dr. Ali said.

He noted that their visit was important, not only to him but also to the leadership of the party, saying that the party leadership had absolute confidence in PDP in Enugu State. Dr. Ali also expressed happiness over the reassurance of the Enugu State delegation earlier to always support the party in the areas of administrative, constitutional and other reform programmes currently ongoing in the party.

“For me and this headquarters, there is only one PDP in Enugu State and any PDP outside this representative is not the true PDP,” said the PDP Chairman.

The party National Chairman, described Enugu State PDP as an exemplary one and a pacesetter, pointing out that the national PDP had adopted "Ebeano - No shaking" slogan which he credited to Enugu State.

“Your slogan of Ebeano - No-Shaking also obtains at the Federal level and you have remained steadfast and showed loyalty and support for the party,” he said further.

He commended Governor Nnamani for his contributions to the party as well as the way and manner he has been piloting the affairs of the party in the state.

Earlier in his speech, the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, had pledged the party’s unflinching loyalty and support to the leadership of the party, as well as its laudable programmes and the reform programmes of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Senator Ekweremadu also expressed their support for the on-going constitutional amendment in the country by the National Assembly.

He told the National Chairman of the party that the leadership and following of the party in Enugu State were intact and would always remain so, adding that the party in the state was poised to deliver the party any time in any election.

Senator Ekweremadu therefore called on the PDP National Chairman to shun and disregard some newspaper claims that PDP in the state was divided, stating that that was the handiwork of detractors.

In a vote of thanks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Frank Nweke (Jnr.), thanked Dr. Ali for his understanding and commended his wisdom and ability in ensuring that PDP remained one indivisible entity.
