March 31, 2006

Governor Chimaroke Nnamani has said that his administration will continue to protect the interest of all the various industrial and transport unions operating in the State.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria, Enugu Branch, at the Government House, Governor Nnamani told them that government will always accord them their due recognition in the scheme of things.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dan Shere, described members of the union as a major contributor to the social and economic growth of the state, and urged them to avoid any act that would tarnish their image and that of the State.

He told them that the meeting was called to enable them interact with the government, with a view to knowing their areas of need and how best to tackle them.

According to the Governor, the meeting was also arranged to enable government explain its programmes and activities to them.

The State Chief Executive thanked members of the union for their support, adding that their response in their large numbers was a demonstration of their support and cooperation.

He told them not to be deceived by those he described as detractors, adding that government would continue to address their problems..

Earlier in his speech, the State Chairman of the Union, Mr. Sam Egbo, thanked the Governor for his good works and recognition accorded them in his government. Mr. Egbo pointed out that the administration of Governor Nnamani was the first to recognize their importance and give them a sense of belonging in his government.

He therefore assured the Governor of their total support at all times and appealed to him to recognize them as a trade union since they were now more organized and united, and ready to contribute to the development of the State.

The union Chairman also appealed to the Governor to provide them with an office complex and operational car for their officers as well as more political appointments since they had qualified personnel in their union.
